SafeShelterCT

Building dignity, equity, and secure housing for Cape Town.

Project Overview

Cape Town’s housing crisis is not merely a lack of homes — it reflects historic spatial injustice and systemic exclusion. Over 600,000 people remain on the city’s housing list, with less than 5% consulted in housing decisions. SafeShelterCT is a grassroots initiative working towards sustainable, fair housing solutions that restore dignity and strengthen communities.

Community housing in Cape Town

The Problem

Housing is interconnected with all socio-economic rights. Without fair access to safe and affordable housing, families remain trapped in cycles of poverty and exclusion. This crisis isn’t just about structures, but about justice, equity, and human rights.
